Broken, Happy, and Whole: Finding Fulfillment through Kingdom Principles
Life often takes us through seasons where we feel broken, joyful, and whole. These experiences, though varied, are deeply connected to God’s Kingdom principles. The Bible reveals how each state—brokenness, happiness, and wholeness—plays a vital role in shaping our faith and drawing us closer to God.
The Journey from Brokenness through Joy to Restoration
Broken: The Foundation of Transformation
Brokenness is not a sign of failure but an invitation to God’s transformative power. David, in Psalm 51:17 NLT, writes, “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.” When we are broken, we recognize our dependence on God. It is in these moments that God reshapes us for His purpose, turning our pain into a foundation for His glory.
Jesus Himself demonstrated the value of brokenness when He fed the 5,000. He took five loaves and two fish, blessed them, broke them, and multiplied them to feed the multitude (Matthew 14:19 NIV). In the same way, our brokenness becomes a blessing when surrendered to God.
This may not be the best analogy, however, it’s the one used for the moment.
Happy: True Joy in the Kingdom
Happiness in the Kingdom of God isn’t based on circumstances but on aligning with His will. Jesus proclaimed in the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” NKJV (Matthew 5:3). The Easy Translation reads…“Happy are the people who know that they need God very much. The kingdom of heaven belongs to people like that.” This happiness is deeper than fleeting emotions; it’s the joy that comes from living in God’s grace and promises.
True happiness springs from abiding in Christ. John 15:11 NIV reminds us of this: “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” Kingdom happiness is rooted in obedience and faith, allowing us to experience the peace that surpasses understanding, even in trials.
Nugget of Information: Listening to a sermon or one of our Bible Book Club readings by the late Dr, Myles Monroe, he describes the beatitudes as Attitudes to Be. I like this description!
Whole: Restored by the King
Wholeness is the culmination of God’s work in us—a state of spiritual completeness found in Christ. In Colossians 2:10 NIV, Paul declares, “In Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.” Wholeness is not about being perfect in the world’s eyes but about being restored in relationship with God.
The story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–32 NIV) beautifully illustrates this. When the son returned home, broken and repentant, he was restored by his father’s love and acceptance. Similarly, our wholeness comes through reconciliation with our heavenly Father, who makes all things new, and better than ever.
Wrap Up
Whether we find ourselves broken, happy, or whole, God is present in every season. Brokenness humbles us, happiness inspires us, and wholeness completes us. By embracing Kingdom principles and trusting in God’s promises, we discover a life of purpose, joy, and restoration.
Let us continually seek God, knowing that His love works in all things to shape us into the image of Christ (Romans 8:28–29 NIV). Through Him, we are made complete!
We serve an AMAZING King!
A TIME OF REFLECTION
One season of my life when I felt broken was when my cousin, Tondra passed away. I felt a sense of emptiness and that she died too soon; leaving unfinished missions. This blog was birthed after her passing, which brought me joy. Read “A Heartfelt Tribute” here.
